EBUKA OKORIE AND UGONNA ONYENSO HAVE ARRIVED
Detroit got its two rookies. Vegas is the first live read on what actually translates — Okorie's shot and defensive frame, Onyenso's rim protection and foul discipline.
Ebuka Okorie
- The jumper — 35% from three on real volume in college, but does it hold up from NBA distance and against NBA-length closeouts?
- Defensive survival — can a 186-pound guard hold his ground against stronger Summer League ball-handlers without needing constant help?
- Low-turnover poise — Okorie protected the ball in a huge college role with very little help. Vegas tests whether that calm travels against longer, faster pressure.
Ugonna Onyenso
- Rim deterrence — the shot-blocking is real. Watch whether drivers actually change plans when he is near the paint.
- Foul discipline — can he contest vertically, avoid cheap fouls, and stay on the floor long enough for the defense to matter?
- Offensive development — the bar is not polished scoring yet. It is hands, screens, rolls, simple finishes, and signs he can become more than a shot-blocker.

Pistons Summer League watch points
The four things that decide whether Vegas is a real signal for Detroit — split evenly between Okorie and Onyenso.
The Stanford tape says 35% from three on real volume. Does it scale against NBA closeouts and the longer line? If yes, he's a bench-creator floor. If not, the on-ball burden gets harder.
186 pounds is light for an NBA lead guard. We want to see him stay in front of Philon, fight over screens, and not give up the corner-three rotation behind him.
Blocks per 36, vertical contests, and — more importantly — the speed of his second jump. The second-round bet only pays if the rim presence translates against NBA athletes.
Can he catch a roll pass and finish? Does he have any short-roll passing read at all? Anything beyond zero offensive utility raises his outcome floor.
