Okorie aced the first Vegas test
First game, first checkpoint, and Okorie looked like the player Detroit moved up to get. He got wherever he wanted, played through the game with real control, and gave Detroit the exact opening read it wanted: 20 points, four assists, two steals, and only one credited turnover on 8-of-16 shooting. The step-back three to open the third quarter was the eye-test moment. Summer League is not proof, but this was the right first answer.
- Shot translation — first look holds up
Okorie went 2-for-5 from three with a comfortable release from NBA range. The step-back three to start the third quarter was the highlight possession — real shot creation off the dribble against pro athletes. Small sample, but the answer to Vegas watch point #1 was encouraging.
- Playmaking read looks real
Four assists undersells it. The reads were genuine second-side creation, not empty box-score kickouts, and Okorie could have finished with eight-plus if finishing around him held up. The lone credited turnover was a pass that went through an open teammate's hands, not a decision-making mistake.
- Physicality test — still TBD
He looked small out there, and Philly did not really force him to prove the frame yet. Two steals reflected real defensive instincts and activity, but the on-ball defensive checkpoint is still open. Later Vegas games with heavier ball-pressure will tell more.
